6th December 2020 ‘All around the altar’ Service 10.30am

Welcome to our online ‘All around the altar’ service starting at 10.30am led by Cheryl Trice with a talk by Andrea Ward.

Here’s a message from Cheryl, who will be leading the service:

“I hope this message finds you well. As we gather this coming Sunday for our All Around the Altar Service we will be pre-recording the service from our church building within the week. During the pre-recording I will be lighting our 3 candles as we enter our worship time together. Can I encourage you to have 3 candles at home ready to light within your own worshiping space. The words will be on the screen for everyone to join in with; but it would be nice if we could enter into God’s presence through the lighting of candles and the saying of prayers simultaneously symbolising that although we are distant in person we are united by God’s Holy Spirit. Thank you Cheryl. “

And a message from Andrea  –  please see the Finger Labyrinth below which you might like to have ready to use in the service or afterwards.
God bless,
Andrea.

Bible reading for today

Mark 1:1-8

John the Baptist Prepares the Way

The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah,[a] the Son of God,[b] as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:

“I will send my messenger ahead of you,
    who will prepare your way”[c]
“a voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
    make straight paths for him.’”[d]

And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
